Jrue Holiday Wants Out

In order to shed salary and dip below the second apron, the Celtics decided to ship veteran guard Jrue Holiday and his three-year $104.4 million dollar contract to Portland in exchange for Anfernee Simons and two future second-round picks. By the time Holiday’s contract with the Celtics would expire, he would be 37 years old.

With Jayson Tatum’s injury and salary cap issues putting the Celtics in a financial bind, Holiday knew there was a possibility he would be traded this offseason. However, it appears Portland is the last place he wanted to go. Holiday is reportedly “pissed” that he was traded to Portland.

Will the Trailblazers reroute Holiday?

Probably not, even though Jrue Holiday has expressed his disinterest in playing for the Trail Blazers. If you're Portland, you don't move Anfernee Simons for an aging veteran like Holiday unless you believe he adds significant value to your roster. The Blazers were not in the playoffs last season, but Holiday could serve as an invaluable mentor for their young squad and improving their perimeter defense.

If Jrue Holiday gets his way and is traded again, expect the Mavericks (who will be without Kyrie for the first chunk of the season), Kings, Heat, Clippers, or Rockets to get involved.
