Desmond Bane to Magic
The June 15 trade marks Orlando’s boldest move to improve their team in years—betting big on contention with Bane’s scoring capabilities. Meanwhile, Memphis accrues valuable draft assets and serviceable role players without dismantling the better part of its core.
To Orlando Magic:
SG Desmond Bane
To Memphis Grizzlies:
SG Kentavious Caldwell‑Pope
SG Cole Anthony
Four unprotected first‑round picks (2025 No. 16, 2026 via Phoenix/Washington, 2028, 2030)
2029 first‑round pick swap (top‑2 protected)
Orlando, coming off an early playoff exit, losing to the Celtics in 5, ranked dead last in 3‑point percentage (31.8%). With shooting and secondary ball-handling clearly being Orlando’s biggest issue, the addition of Bane—a 41% career 3‑point shooter—perfectly complements Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner and will look to improve Orlando’s lack of shooting.
After collapsing post-All-Star, going 12-16 after the break, and being swept in the first round, Memphis decided to retool—moving Bane to refocus around Morant and Jackson Jr. Roster reconstruction was imminent, considering the sudden firing of Taylor Jenkins towards the end of the 2024-2025 regular season.
